This limited edition of 22 pieces features a large central titanium bridge with a hand-brushed finish, giving it a unique texture. Greubel Forsey introduces a newly designed Balancier 3 movement, limited to 22 pieces. This timepiece is an upgrade to the 2023 base movement, focusing on significant structural improvements to the movement finishing rather than a complete redesign of the mechanical structure. The highlight of this timepiece lies in the deep hand-brushed finish on the curved central titanium bridge. This special polishing process creates a unique matte texture that effectively absorbs light, forming a striking visual contrast with the brightly polished mainspring barrel and balance bridge. By highlighting the visual characteristics of each titanium component, the movement clearly showcases its mechanical layout without altering its fundamental 282-gear train. At the heart of the movement's aesthetics are the different shades of blue on the mainplate. These unique color treatments create visual depth within the untreated titanium frame, guiding the viewer's eye downwards, layer by layer, into the intricate structure of the skeletonized movement. The entire design prioritizes structural clarity, dividing the chronograph, power generation, and gear train components into distinct visual areas defined by their respective bridges.

Case and Dial

This timepiece features Greubel Forsey's exclusive Convexe titanium case design, whose complex asymmetrical geometry is designed to optimize the wearing experience on the wrist. The basic dimensions establish an ergonomic benchmark: the titanium case is 41.50 mm in diameter, while the variable geometry bezel extends outwards to 43.60 mm. The gradual taper from the center of the case to the bezel creates a unique reverse profile. This special geometry results in a smaller contact area between the watch base and the wrist, while the increased upper diameter maximizes the dial's opening and light transmission. The case thickness is 13.35 mm (13.55 mm at the apex of the domed synthetic sapphire crystal), its profile requiring a stepped convex curvature to control its height. The titanium case features a straight-grained side panel that flows smoothly into the sharply defined lugs, separated by a highly polished chamfer. Standard titanium safety screws are visible along the bezel edge, securing the watch's external structure. Water resistance reaches the industry standard of 5 ATM (50 meters).

The dial and movement are integrated, almost entirely replaced by a light blue brushed titanium mainplate and large structural bridges. A three-dimensional, deep blue, variable-geometry hour marker ring encircles the inner bezel, which is adorned with an engraved and painted minute track. The hour markers are raised, polished, and filled with Super-LumiNova luminescent coating. This luminescent material echoes the curved contours of the polished steel hour and minute hands, which are skeletonized and mounted on the central gear. A large central bridge, finished in new brushed steel, suspends these central hands and curves downward to support the small seconds display between 7 and 8 o'clock. Instead of a traditional central gear sweeping seconds hand, the Balancier 3 uses a rotating, textured, lightweight alloy disc to display the small seconds. A fixed red triangular indicator is mounted directly above the disc to indicate the elapsed seconds. This unique layout flattens the profile of the subdials and reduces the stacking of the central hands, thus lowering the overall clearance required beneath the sapphire crystal. At 5 o'clock, the large balance wheel is fully exposed, secured by a bright, polished titanium balance bridge. The highly reflective polished bridges create a striking visual contrast between the escapement and the matte-brushed central structure.

Movement

This in-house developed manual-winding movement, 35.80 mm in diameter and 9.03 mm thick, occupies almost the entire interior of the convex case. At the heart of the chronograph assembly is a variable inertia balance wheel developed in-house by Greubel Forsey. This large 12.60 mm diameter balance wheel is finely tuned using six gold average time screws. The escapement oscillates at a traditional low frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz). The hairspring features a Phillips tip curve to facilitate concentric breathing during its extension and retraction and is secured by a traditional Geneva stud. The gear train features involute teeth, an engineering design aimed at optimizing energy transfer from the mainspring to the escapement. Power is supplied by two series-connected, high-speed rotating mainspring barrels, clearly visible through the dial side, located in the upper hemisphere of the movement structure. Both mainspring barrels complete a full rotation every 3.2 hours. This high-speed rotation is designed to ensure stable torque output during the 72-hour power reserve, thus reducing friction and power loss common during the release of the traditional mainspring. One of the mainspring barrels is equipped with a sliding spring to prevent excessive tension during manual winding, thus avoiding damage to the mainspring. The barrel cover is decorated with embossed lettering, circular textures, and a unique rhodium plating finish. The complete finishing of the sub-dial and titanium mainplate can be admired through the transparent synthetic sapphire crystal case back. The movement sides are fully brushed, while the edges and the grooves around the 43 marquise jewels are highly polished. These jewels are set in traditional gold bases. A special gold plaque engraved with the limited edition number is decorated with circular and linear textures on the sides. The power reserve indicator is entirely located on the case back, indicated by a polished steel hand with a flat, black polished tip that sweeps across the dial. Moving the power reserve indicator to the movement side reduces clutter on the dial side, allowing the front space to be used solely for displaying the time and showcasing the escapement.

Strap

The Balancier 3 features a hand-stitched rubber strap with a raised woven texture. The light blue strap perfectly matches the tone of the brushed mainplate of the movement. The strap is secured to the wrist with a titanium folding clasp engraved with the Greubel Forsey logo. For customers requiring a heavier weight to balance the 41.50 mm convex case, a three-row titanium bracelet with a folding clasp and integrated micro-adjustment system is also available upon request.
